So, this is not breaking news or anything… My mom has been a Granny for over 20 years. She has 5 grandsons.

It is only recently that I have started to realise that she IS A GRANNY! I was at my parents’ house earlier this week, and looking around the lounge – I saw all kinds of things that Grannies have in their house! For one, there are no less than THREE (3) arrangements of fake flowers. Eish.

The sideboard (who, other than Grannies even *has* a sideboard?) houses gold framed photos of some few grandsons, as well as the newest addition to the artificial flowers (for what it’s worth, the flowers *are* quite nice). The painting above the sideboard is mine from school days (Standard 9 I think…?). So, this is what you see as you walk into the Granny’s house:

Then, to the right of the passage is a teeny tiny tottering table with a floor length tablecloth. Here, you will find pink artificial roses (in a container I made when I was about 12). The roses even have fake water droplets on, nogal! …

Above this dear little feature is a black and white photo of my family before I was born. Mom, dad, brother and 2 sisters. Don’t they all look miserable!! This must have been in about 1980 or so. I was born very late into the family as you can see…!

Moving along – to the right of the afore mentioned teetering table, is the TV unit which is home to numerous photos of:

  1. Two Israeli Grandsons
  2. Eldest grandson with his Granny
  3. Another Grandson
  4. Fairy Ornament (WTF??)
  5. Wedding photo of son to his lovely wife (parents to grandson in photo 3)
  6. Wedding picture of eldest daughter to husband (now divorced)
  7. Photo of my other sister and me (rather outdated)

The TV cabinet is flanked by the afore mentioned artificial roses on the left, and a lovely sprig of artificial wild cosmos on the right.

The overstuffed couches are home to plump butterfly-printed scatter cushions.

Down the passage is a wedding photo of the Granny who lives here and her rather dashing groom – what the hell happened to him, heaven only knows!!

The other Granny-ish thing about this house, is that, as old people tend to do, these oldies have taken a liking to having haddock for breakfast. Which is the most foul smell in the world… so, on the odd occasion, walking into the house, you are greeted by the smell of boiled haddock… and of course, the beautiful sideboard.

So, after 20 years of being a granny – it is now showing!
